I've been using GB for a while now, and think it's way cool. Question: Since I've now accumulated a lot of messages, is there a way to limit the number of messages that are returned during a search? Ideally what I'd like is a paging method where it returns a predetermined number of search results per page. So if there's 2,000 returned results, show only 25 at a time.

Response:
You can already do this in the Standard Preferences Manager |

I am getting quite a lot of genuine message in my spam log, is the only reason they are there because the person fails to complete the message within the timeout or fails the captcha test? I currently have the timeout at 20 minutes.
21 September 2009
Response:
Only reason is if they fail the captcha. |

I am moving my homepage to a new webhost. How do a move my guestbook whit all messages?
9 March 2009
Response:
To move your guestbook you need to a) install a new guestbook on the new site (you MUST do this first) and b) copy the two directories active_guestbook_files and active_guestbook_directory from the old server to the new server. If you can't do this we can do this for you for a $50 charge. |

I am unable to turn off the requirement for users to enter code when adding messages. I have the other security features in place to block spam. The majority of the users that visit this guestbook are very computer illiterate. What can I do to remove this feature from the Guestbook?
7 December 2007
Response:
You can't turn this off. Spambots can bypass most security, but not that one. |

In Active Powerbook, with email notification, I'd like a copy of the posted message emailed TO ME. Right now all I get is an email that states: "You have a new message in your PowerBook". I know how to get a copy of the message emailed to the guest (who posted the message). But I want to know how to get the message emailed to *me*, the admin. I don't see a way to do this in the Field Editor. Please help.

Response:
We are working to make this feature work in the next release (should be in the next week or so). |

Active Powerbook question, looking for a way to have person log in (security level 2), and then have his post identified by either their email address (used to log in) or their password (also used to log in). In other words, identiy a message based on login information. Is this possible?
15 November 2007
Response:
No way to do this I'm afraid |

I'm transfering a small number of messages from an old (different) guestbook, and I'd like to know the algorithm for converting the dates, so that the messages reflect the original dates. Right now the database has things like 1223334911, 1194324542, 1194333215
6 November 2007
Response:
The only way to do this is to add the message and then edit the date in the Message Editor |

Another question regarding Active Powerbook-- is there a way to have the thread with the most recently posted message display at the top? For example, say threads A, B and C. Suppose A contains messages A1, A2, thru A10, and B contains B1-B10, etc. Say that B7 was the most recently postsed message. In that case I would like thread B to displayed first. Is that possible?

Response:
Can't do that I'm afraid. I think what you really want is a Bulletin Board |

I can't figure out how to restore a database from the email backups. To restore from Control Panel - Backup Manager is simple enough, but what about from an email backup? Thanks again.
7 October 2007
Response:
Because of the variety of ways that email clients handle text, it would be best to email the message to us and we will convert it for you. |

I am using Active PowerBook. When will powerbook incorporate the same antispam features as active guestbook? I am being hit with a lot of Spam at the moment.
5 April 2007
Response:
Powerbook doesn't need the antispam features. All you need to do is add a random required field and the spambots won't be able to handle it. |

Is there a way to move a message from spam over to "real" entries? Perhaps by manually editing a certain file via ftp? I'm using 14.3. Thanks!
27 March 2007
Response:
Afraid not. The spam log only contains part of the attempt to add the message. If the person doesn't pick the correct numbers, it is locked in the spam log. |

Hi, Great script. However I seem to be having a problem on my home server. When i use the Message manager to delete or approve and entries, I get extra entries in my guestbook. Some have numbers for the name, and others are blank. I know this is a corrupt guestbook file, but it happens every time (multiple re-installs) It works fine on my laptop and on another server I installed it to to test. One thing I did find was that it would put an entry into my spam log for legit entries, even after they were approved. the entries in the spam log would stay. Can this be a problem with NAT? My home server is behind a Linksys router, and the machine itself is put into the DMZ of the router so all incoming traffic goes to it. One more question; yesterday I could not get to your site, it seems that your DNS entry was gone. I noticed then that the anti-spam numbers would not load because they were linked to images on your site. Luckily I had cached copies of these images so I changed the address in the cgi file to point to my local copies, this seems to work fine. Is there a reason for these images to be linked to your site by default? Did I mess something up by changing that setting (i did it for the three machines I was using for testing, Only the machine behind the router had any problems like the above.) Thank you in advance.
15 March 2007
Response:
Don't know what is causing the message problems. If you email us with examples and with your ftp details we can take a look. Also, version 14.3 now lets you use captcha images on your own site. |

I have just installed version 14.2. I like the new security feature of the underlined numbers. However, your site was down yesterday and so the numbers did not appear when leaving a message. Are these numbers generated on the Active-Scripts site? Or is it just the graphics of the numbers that come from there. If the latter case is true can we store the graphics on our own server so we are not affected by your downtime?
15 March 2007
Response:
Version 14.3 now allows you to host captcha images |

Greetings Sirs I have searched the boards for answer but yielded none. Somehow, I was able to mess up my guestbook.cgi. download it on my desktop and added a line (favicon) using dreamweaver. When I placed it back, it gave me an 500 error How would I be able to get it back? Thank you for your time ReD
