Do you plan on adding emoticons? This is the first time I ventured outside of Net Fusion to actually add something myself. It has turned out beautifully -- No problems.

Tried for the last two hours to install the guestbook.
Getting error

and error

To what extent are user mods allowed? Gievn that you won't support altered code, which I understand, but I need to somewhat mimic existing guestbook format/layout but with more options.
Also, would a license be needed as i would be linking to it via a commercial site BUT the guestbook is NOT at all for my business but is for the local community to share historical info, etc...

It has been quite some time I didn't enter the control panel which caused me forgotten the p/word. I've deleted the active.txt file and enter 'active' as the p/word. Still cannot enter it?

Problem: Clicking on "APPROVE THIS MESSAGE" no longer approves message, but instead returns me to the Please Enter Password screen.
NOTES:
1. This *USED* to work, and messages were being approved ok. But recently my web site on which I have placed the address book was 'accidently' wiped by my host provider, and I had to reinstall it. Since then I cannot get ANY of the message management options to work!
2. I have set security (CHGMOD) to all the folders in the folder path to guestbook_data.txt on the site to 755, and to the guestbook_data.txt file itself to 666.
3. I have enabled all types of cookie (3rd party etc.) in ZoneAlarm for my site, and checked that the IE security will always 'allow' my site's cookies. (IE cookie security is Medium).
I also use the WinXP firewall as well as ZoneAlarm Pro.

Up until now, the Newsboard has been working great. All of a sudden, I am no longer able to post to it. It goes so far as to tell me that the information has been submitted, but when I go to the board, the new post is not there.

I had a problem installing the script on a server runing Red Hat 9 - if I set the permission per the instructions I got an error message - I set the permissions on the cgi-bin, powerbook ditectory and the cgi script to "777" ran the install and it installed great - then I went back and changed the permission to "755" as a safety measure and everything works great - I'd suggect this modification to the instructions to hel p people with the set up

For editing I have tried the cgi-bin/guestbook/guestbook.cgi?action=control_panel. This brings me to the guestbook home page. I uploaded the new version with the same result. How can I edit the guestbook?

Has my guestbook been hacked?
It has ballooned from about 7 pages of messages to 187 pages - with most of the messages blank except for date: del and where in the world: 1790.
Usually, the guestbook textfile is 37 kb - it's now at 42 MB.
The guestbok was moved to this domain November 12th, the textfile taken from a backup where I deleted the blank lines, and everything looked normal.
It's gone wonky once before, only with much less weird entries resulting. Or perhaps something happens during backups? Except backups should just copy what's there - not add something.

Happens once in a blue moon when a data file gets corrupted for some reason, usually because of a bad message. The best thing to do is let us have a look at the data file and we will fix it for you. |

Hi.
I love your scripts.
At the moment I testing the Newsboard and I have set 'Number of days until an item is automatically removed from newsboard.' to zero but postings are still disappearing. Is there a solution to this?
Which file do I need to annotate to or change the field names for both the guestbook and the newsboard?
Also which file do I need to change if I want to make a field on the form (required)for both the guestbook and newsboard?

Try setting the 'number of days' field to something very large and see if that fixes the first problem.
You change the field names in the Language Preferences Manager.
You can't change the 'required' fields in the guestbook or the newsboard. Only Active Powerbook allows that. |

I noticed in one post you state problems can arise when trying to run more than one guestbook on windows servers. Is this still the case? Is there a work around for it? I would like to have a guest book for each of fundraising campaigns we are running, allowing our users to post messeges to the person they are donating to. My site is currently hosted on w2k servers.

Windows can (and probably will) cause this problem. Active PowerBook can handle this on Windows servers. |

I am trying to delete som posts but it will not let me delete anything. I get into the control panel and choose Message Manager, I see the messages but when I click on Delete it takes me back to the enter password screen. I have tried making changes in the Preferences area also and it does the same thing, no matter what I do it just dumps me back to the password screen. Please help!

Is it okay to rename the guestbook.cgi file after a guest book has been installed, or would re-installation be necessary after renaming? I have an ongoing problem with spammers and I think they may be using robots to search for links to files named 'guestbook,' although I have a robots.txt file to keep them out of my cgi directory itself.

You can change the name to anything you like and it should still work. The only thing you need to be careful about is the fact that some servers are set up to only allow scripts with certain tags to run, but this is quite rare. |
