Using the Active PowerBook Control Panel

Finding the Control Panel

In Active PowerBook, you can create as many sub powerbooks as you like from the Control Panel in the master powerbook. We call this the Master Control Panel. Each sub powerbook has its own Control Panel, but only the Master Control Panel gives you access to the Server Manager which controls all the sub powerbooks.

To get to the Master Control Panel, you need to put "?action=control_panel" after the address of your powerbook. For example..

http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/powerbook/powerbook.cgi?action=control_panel

ensuring of course that you use the correct address of your script.

You can get to the Control Panel of any sub powerbooks you create via the Server Manager in the Master Control Panel, but you can also go there by adding "&book=nameofyoursubpowerbook" to the end of the above address. So if you have created a sub powerbook called "family", you can go to the control panel by visiting

http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/powerbook/powerbook.cgi?action=control_panel&book=family

Using the Control Panel

To access the Control Panel you will need to enter a password. The default password is the work "active" in lower case. You will need to have cookies enabled or the Control Panel will not work.

The Control Panel will always tell you which of your powerbooks you are working with. This is because it can be confusing if you are managing dozens of different sub powerbooks. The title of the Control Panel and all the links in the Control Panel show the name of the current powerbook. When you visit a section (e.g. the Menu Manager) you can always see which powerbook you are working in by looking at the section title.

You can use the links in the main Control Panel page to go to the various sections which manage your powerbook. Only the Master Control Panel contains the license information and the upgrade link. You can also only request and enter you license information via the Master Control Panel.

There is a link near the top of the Control Panel to allow you to log out. Normally, simply closing your browser will log you out of the Control Panel, but if you chose "Keep me logged in on this computer" when you previously logged in, then clicking the Log Out link will mean that the next time you want to enter the Control Panel, you will need to re-enter your password.
